When she isn’t getting severely burned by Nicki Minaj at the VMA’s, Miley Cyrus is releasing a free album.

The album, titled “Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz,” is available to stream online for free on SoundCloud and features 23 new songs. The album is the follow-up to her 2013 album “Bangerz,” which peaked at 21 on Billboard Hot 100, and earned Cyrus the Video of the Year award at the VMA’s for her single “Wrecking Ball.”

This free album is something that flew under the radar after Nicki Minaj called Miley Cyrus out during her acceptance speech at the VMA’s on August 30th. However, the album is still worth a mention largely because of the word “free,” and we all know that college students love free things.

Listening to her first song, “Dooo It!” there is a lot of profanity that is really to be expected of Cyrus if you are familiar at all with the out-there nature she has adopted since “Bangerz” was released.

If you’re all for songs with a nice beat to play at parties and are not sensitive to profanities, then overall this is a pretty good song for you. Cyrus performed the song at the VMA’s, and much of the performance was bleeped out by MTV. However, all of Cyrus’s lyrics remain intact on the streaming site.

Another track titled “Tiger Dreams” is a complete contrast to the hit-the-club nature of “Dooo It!” It is probably my favorite song in the album. After listening to it once, I knew I really liked it, which is different from the rest of the album, which took a couple of listens to get used to.

“Tiger Dreams” is a slower, yet slightly creepy song that features Ariel Pink. If you want to be reminded of horror movies, then I recommend “Tiger Dreams.”

The last song I’ll review is “Tangerines,” which features Big Sean. This song is right after “Tiger Dreams,” and if you aren’t paying attention, you’ll end up thinking that it is just a continuation of “Tiger Dreams.” The beat is pretty similar and it starts out with the same eerie feel. Cyrus even sings in the same tone of voice with the same emotion. I personally love albums where songs flow into each other, so this was a pleasant surprise. However, I think that Big Sean’s part was a little out of place. I was really enjoying Cyrus’s lyrics and then I felt blindsided by Big Sean. His lyrics are good enough, and they actually fit the song pretty well. Getting past that, overall it is a great song.

I definitely feel that this album is different than Miley Cyrus’s past albums. Though Cyrus has been maintaining the same personality since the release of “Bangerz”. “Miley Cyrus and her Dead Petz” contains a variety of songs that capture parts of her personality that we often do not see on tv. Overall, I think that this album was a good listen, and if you have liked Miley Cyrus’s songs in the past, then you’ll like this album as well. Even if you aren’t a huge fan of her work, I highly recommend at least giving one of the songs a listen to. After all, it is free.
