I wanted to make a name for myself and take advantage of all the opportunities I had available out of nowhere. With the high expectations I had set for myself, it was a good thing that I heard about the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship before it was too late for me to apply. The Gilman scholarship turned out to be the perfect fit for me. However, I didn’t apply for the program until my senior year of college.

Where jobs are a pleasure: FSC alumni working for Publix

It’s hard to escape the Publix identity in Polk County, especially at Florida Southern. Our field house, green and sophomore men’s dorms are named after Publix founder George W. Jenkins. The Greek suites, formally known as the Publix Charities Commons, are funded by its namesake. Students will work at their stores after classes, and their headquarters reside in the big glass building by the local airport. 

Mocs earn runner-up in the AVCA Small College Championships bronze bracket

To close the beach volleyball season, the Mocs competed in the AVCA Small College Championships at Hickory Point Beach in Tavares, Florida April 12-14. The team matched-up against six schools throughout the tournament as the No. 10 seed in Pool B. They started third out of four in their pool. 

Swan City takes on the Swan Derby for it’s 17th anniversary

On April 26, Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine (LVIM) will be hosting their 17th annual Swan Derby on Lake Mirror in downtown Lakeland. This event is free admission and runs from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., consisting of three swan boat races, a fireworks show and much more. 

Freshman wins full-ride scholarship from Moccasin Battalion

The Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) at Florida Southern College is one of the top-rated ROTC programs in the Southeastern United States. The Moccasin Battalion has consistently ranked in the top 10% of ROTC programs by summer training evaluations. Alumni of the Moccasin Battalion include multiple general officers, several members of the FSC Board of Trustees and leaders around the globe.
