If you can’t get enough of recreational sports through inter murals, here’s your chance.

The City of Lakeland offers a variety of recreational adult sports, including basketball, flag-football, kickball and softball.

The sports are hosted at the Kelly Recreational Complex on Imperial Blvd and registration for many of the teams is now open.

Softball teams offer all-mens or co-ed options, with the season in the spring, fall and summer.

Registration for the spring season closed January 27, but options for the summer and fall will be posted in time. With a cost of around $400 per season , the City of Lakeland provides umpires and referees.

They even go as far as to provide the equipment itself. According to the YLakeland website, men’s softball games will be held Monday or Thursday, and the co-ed games will take place on Tuesdays.

Games run once a week for a season total of 10 weeks.

Kickball is an all coed sport that is offered at a cheaper price of $250 per season with seasons running for 10 weeks in the spring and fall.

Registration for the spring season also closed January 27, but the fall option will be available shortly.

Flag-football is currently only offered for men at a price of $425 per team. The season runs in the spring and registration closes Feb 10.

The final sport offered by the City of Lakeland is basketball. The men’s basketball team is offered for $325 in the spring. Registrations for all sports seem to be increasing in popularity, and they come with quite a few benefits.

In Chris Gelbach’s Never Stop Playing, Trends in Adult Recreational Sports, he sums up recreational sports perfectly.

“Adult recreational sports offer recreation managers a potent way to encourage lifelong fitness and build a sense of community among patrons of all ages.”
