As a result of the unpredictability of Hurricane Dorian, the Department of Campus Safety and Security released a statement saying that classes are cancelled for all students for the week of Sept. 2 and will resume back in Sept. 9.

All athletic events will be cancelled for the duration of cancelled classes. As of right now, there are no present plans to make up any of the cancelled events.

Athletic events to be cancelled:

  • Women’s Soccer – Sept. 5 vs. Valdosta State
  • Volleyball – Sept. 6 vs. Concorida-St. Paul & Hillsdale
  • Men’s/Women’s Cross Country – Sept. 7 – Holloway Park Preseason Festival
  • Volleyball – Sept. 7 vs. Indiana (Pa.) & Central Missouri

Men’s soccer will continue to travel to Alabama to compete against Montevallo on Sept. 6 and Spring Hill on Sept. 8.

Brink Schoonmaker, manager of athletic facilities prepares the fields for the storm by making sure all windscreens are rolled and any potential flying objects are removed and stored away.

“As far as wind damage and debris and things of that nature, I’m not overly concerned with it,” Schoonmaker said.

The pick of two women’s soccer games scheduled for the weekend will be determined by the amount of rain that the storm brings.
