Beach volleyball starts their second season with a 4-7 record over 11 matches and are on track to surpass last season’s win total where they finished 5-18 overall.

“I feel as if though we act more as a team than individuals,” sophomore Kayla Trefren said. “We cheer each other on, help when needed, and always support one another. I believe that this has encouraged a stronger spirit and desire for winning.”

At home, the Mocs are 2-0 at the Ruthven Beach Volleyball courts after sweeping a double header against UT Martin on March 5. Freshmen Haley Goodrich and Celia Greco picked up wins in both of their matches against UTM.

“Winning my first two college home matches was so fun,” Goodrich said. “Celia and I competed like we never have before, and seeing it pay off so we could get the dub was awesome.”

“My relationship with Celia is extremely healthy and rewarding,” Goodrich said. “She’s my best friend on and off the court, and I love playing with her.”

Freshman Curry Ward believes that the team has rebounded from their 0-4 start due to their ability to make adjustments while still sticking to their style of play.

“I think we are all starting to find our niche in the team as well as grow more confident in our skills,” Ward said. “As a very young program, a majority of the team has just been working to gain confidence in their abilities through more touches.”

Senior Morgan Cleary credits the seven returners from last year’s squad in helping the team get off to a better start than last year.

“I think this year we have a lot more chemistry,” Cleary said. “Incorporating freshmen and transfers into the mix we have was very easy, so it’s like a family.”

The Mocs will host Stevenson/South Florida on March 23 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Ruthven Beach Volleyball Courts.
