Drew Howard was named the new Director of Athletics for Florida Southern College on March 25 at a press conference in the Streamline Sale Arena at Jenkins Field House.

“I am honored and humbled to step into the role of Director of Athletics & Dean of Wellness here at Florida Southern,” Howard said in a press release. “This college has an excellent tradition of athletic and academic success from its student-athletes, and I am proud to continue to be part of that history.”

Director of Athletic Communications Ryan Bower opened the event and welcomed all attendees, which comprised of trustee members, staff members, coaches and student-athletes.

“This is certainly an exciting day for Florida Southern College, Florida Southern Athletics, our fans and our alumni,” Bower said.

Bower invited President Anne B. Kerr to the podium to make the announcement.

“We needed someone who would be an expert in NCAA Compliance, we needed a great financial manager, someone who had stellar operations experience, an HR management expert and the ability to retain and recruit excellent coaches,” Kerr said.

Howard was given the position of Interim Director of Athletics after Pete Meyer retired from the position on Jan. 15. Throughout his two month period in this position, Howard was able to benefit by taking on all the roles that he will now lead.

“I felt like the longer the interim period went, the more it benefitted me because I had the opportunity to show that I can do the job at this level,” Howard said.

In 2013, Howard joined the FSC Athletic Department as assistant athletic director for NCAA Compliance and in 2015 and was promoted to associate athletic director for internal operations.

Howard was promoted again in 2018 to senior associate athletic director and also serves as the administrator for 10 different teams throughout the athletic department.
