FSC Change Leads to New Laundry Machines in Residence Halls

0

Speculations about the new laundry machines in the residence halls have been attributed to the movement with FSC Change according to some students.

According to Assistant Dean in Community Marc Tuschen, the majority of the laundry machines began to be replaced on Oct. 18 and Oct. 19.

Hollis was one of the first Residence Halls to receive new laundry machines before fall break and then on Sunday at then during fall break all the first-year halls received new washers and dryers followed by Greek Village who did not get new machines until after the break.

According the Director of Housing Operations in Community Living Laura Rychalsky, since Opening Day on campus when freshmen moved in, 2,825 work orders have been turned in through the flsouthern website and this does not include work orders for laundry machines.

According to Dawn Cayce in Facilities, [pullquote]“the laundry machines are still from the same company MacGray.”[/pullquote]

Laundry machine work orders have to be placed separately through MacGray, and even with the new laundry machines this procedure stays the same. A work order can be completed for the machines by calling the company. The phone number to call is (813) 672-8700 or 1-800-MAC-GRAY for service. The closet MacGray Company is in Riverview.

According to Tucshen the college in general is funding the cost of the new laundry machines through contacts.

There have only been a few difficulties with the new machines. On the machine it shows a place to put your “card.” Unfortunately for Sophomore Joey Arteaga he put it swipe into the slot and ended up loosing his swipe. As a result Arteaga will have to purchase a new swipe for 15 dollars.

In years past the machines have lacked up-keep. Hopefully with new machines students and maintenance will try and keep the laundry machines clean and working properly.
