Today’s consumers are becoming more and more savvy when it comes to finding low prices. From buying online, to coupon cutting, to thrifting, shoppers are always looking for a great deal.

Secondhand stores in particular are gaining more and more business. According to Times Business, 20 percent of people shop in thrift stores regularly, compared to 14 percent in 2008.

Four months ago, Eric Stehle and his wife, Kristen, opened a used instrument store in Lakeland, hoping to make an impact on the local music community. Music Go Round is a franchise with 34 other locations nationwide, although the Lakeland location is the first in Florida.

Music Go Round is a local music gear store that takes out the hassle of trying to sell instruments or other music equipment online.

Customers have the opportunity to buy, sell or even trade used items.

Both Eric and Kristen are avid music lovers and strongly believe in being able to provide affordable instruments to the Lakeland community.

Kristen was in the band at both Southwest Middle School and Lakeland High School, and later went on to attend Florida Southern and University of South Florida.

Eric was also involved in a band program in York, Pennsylvania and continues to be a drummer now.

“I could never find the right piece of equipment at the right price, and living in south Lakeland there are no music stores,” Eric explained.

Music Go Round not only allows customers to sell and trade used music equipment at an affordable price, but also promotes local bands and holds free clinics. Recently, the store hosted drummer Vinny Appice, from Black Sabbath, and guitar legend Michael Angelo Batio, who was named in 2003 “The No. 1 Shredder of All Time” by “Guitar One Magazine.”

Over the course of four months, the store has gained many returning customers who regularly browse the selection, since new things are constantly entering the store.

“You never know what treasures you will find,” Eric said.

The Stehles admittedly love talking to fellow musicians about gigs and their common love for music when these customers come into the store.

He also speaks highly of the store’s knowledgeable employees who brought a number of established relationships into the business.

Vincent Salvaggio, Manager of Music Go Round, has been a bassist for a number of years and also has a Recording Arts degree.

Another invaluable staff member is Jimmy Smith, who holds a degree in Percussion from the Musicians Institute. Kyle Kreger, Assistant Manager, “has  knowledge in all types of guitars, amps and an extensive music background,” according to store owners.

Music Go Round is currently working with Dean guitars and drums to possibly schedule a musician to come into the store.

The staff is also hoping to increase inventory as well as provide more free clinics and support to the music community of Lakeland.
