After endless rumors, NBC announced a few weeks ago that Jimmy Fallon would be taking over for Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show.” Leno will finish out his contract and the show will officially be Fallon’s next February.
On April 3, Fallon announced the lineup change on his show, which he described as emotional and confusing time.
This announcement raises many questions, not only from fans, but also the new host.
Will the show be shot in California or New York? Are The Roots going to continue being the house band? Is there any bad blood between the two late night hosts?
There is no word on where the show will be shot, but it was confirmed that The Roots will follow Fallon to his new, earlier time slot.
As far as bad blood, there seems to be none at all.
The two actually poked fun at the situation before the announcement by making a duet parody of “Tonight” from “West Side Story,” which aired on Late Night.
Leno even congratulated Fallon on his show by saying, “Congratulations, Jimmy. I hope you’re as lucky as me and hold on to the job until you’re the old guy. If you need me, I’ll be at the garage.”
This isn’t the first time Leno has been has been up to be replaced. Back in 2010, NBC’s Conan O’Brien and Leno fought over the coveted 11:35 time slot.
But in the end, O’Brien lost and moved to a new network. After that it seemed to all be downhill for Leno.
The network was looking for a fresh face to revamp the after-hours talk show, and they found it in Fallon with his witty, new comedy that has been received well on his show.
