[dc]W[/dc]alking into Mayzie’s is like stumbling across a treasure chest of all things monogrammed, brightly colored and girly. Once inside this one-of-a–kind boutique, you are greeted by a cheerful staff and wide array of products to feast your eyes on.

Mayzie’s is a retail store that opened this May in a plaza at 4640 Cleveland Heights Blvd.

Mayzie’s is a haven for the majority of college girls to stock up on monogrammed, designer or sorority needs. It is one of the very few stores in Lakeland that offer specialty gifts and designer items.
Some of the major brands the store carries are Lilly Pulitzer, Jack Rogers, Southern Tide, Jude Connally and Diana Kelly.

“Part of the reason we opened the shop was, in Lakeland, you have to drive to go get things and so we were the people trying to find specialty gifts and clothing or pick up nice hostess gifts,” Amanda May, retail and store manager, said. “We thought Lakeland can definitely sustain that. Instead of driving why not support local business?”

May realized a need in the Lakeland community and went after it full force. Since opening in May the store has relocated to a larger location to accommodate all of the products they have to offer.

“It morphs as we go. We will probably be expanding even more. As we need, we will add. We would like to have several in Florida,” May, said.

As the store grows, so does its number of customers. The store was to start as a specialty gift shop, but quickly expanded to clothing and sorority items that specifically targeted collegiate shoppers.

An entire section of the store is dedicated to sorority-related items and another section includes popular college brands such as Lilly Pulitzer and Southern Tide.

Mayzie’s also specializes in personalized monogramming on anything from t-shirts to bath towels. With the holiday season coming up, Mayzie’s offers a vast variety of special and personalized gift options.

May describes it as “a mini department store, in a way.”

Mayzie’s already has an active Facebook page, which is frequently updated with any new arrivals, sales or special events that are happening in the store.

May said that they will soon be launching a website in which customers can view products and order from.

In December, the store plans to have a holiday open house, which will include special deals and holiday recipes. Mayzie’s aims to provide an inviting environment by offering fun food and drink options in the store on Saturdays.

“Every day here we like to have a little bit of fun. There’s always something going on,” May said.

With a variety of unique products that Mayzie’s offers, it makes it a valuable addition to Lakeland.
