For Florida Southern students, it is not uncommon to be involved on campus. But senior Chase Hoyt takes the meaning of being involved on campus to a new level.
Chase is senior nursing major and is the president of FSC’s Student Government Association. For a normal college student that is a lot to deal with already, but for Chase it is just the beginning.
Anyone on Florida Southern campus knows the name Chase Hoyt. Chase is a friendly and familiar face to many students on campus and goes above and beyond with the roles he plays.
Chase chose to be a nurse after participating in a rotation in high school where he got to experience various different positions in the hospital. Out of all the people he shadowed he enjoyed the enthusiasm and care the nurses had for his patients. His experience is what prompted him to go into nursing and led him to Florida Southern.
For Chase, just being involved is not enough. He enjoys taking his involvement a step further and has taken leadership roles in many of the organizations with which he is involved with. Out of his many roles, he has taken leaderships roles in Theta Chi, ODK, Relay for Life, Phi Eta Sigma, Student Government Association, Studio Box, MSC, Nature Enthusiasts, and the FSC Gardening Club. Currently, he holds leadership roles as the President of SGA and has a pseudo-leadership role in Relay for Life.
Chase explains that his very first leadership role at FSC during his freshman year was probably the most impactful role he has taken on during his time here. He acted as a first-year representative for Student Government.
“I kind of ran for it on a whim, wanting to try something new in college and it has helped shaped the experience that I have had here at Florida Southern,”Chase said.
Over his time in his leadership roles, he has performed tasks such as delegating and overseeing fellow peers. He has also gained a lot of knowledge that will help prepare him for the real world. These experiences have helped him gain communications skills, helped him to have a better insight and understanding on how other people work and how to work with others effectively.
The phrase running away from your problems is a phrase Chase lives out regularly. Being a busy-body can be tiring, and Chase says he de stresses from his busy life by watching Netflix and running. Running is extremely important to him. In his free time, he and his friends partakes in races.
Hoyt encourages those interested to get involved on campus and to not be afraid to take on leadership roles. He says to just go for it. He explains that a lot of people don’t take the time to get involved, so if you are passionate about something, people pick up on it quickly.
Chase is graduating in May and has plans for his future lined up already. He is currently looking at working in nursing presidency programs. He is currently applying to the Mayo Clinic, John Hopkins and Vanderbilt University to name a few. He has an interview scheduled with Vanderbilt University in the upcoming weeks.
It’s clear that everything that Chase has been involved with has helped him to have a successful future. Out of all the experiences that Chase has gained here at FSC, what he is the most thankful for is the relationships he has made and the people with which he got to work.
