Women’s lacrosse opened up their conference season with a 16-4 vicotry over Florida Tech on March 16.
Aubriana and Maliah Benedetto teamed up for six goals and two assists helping the Mocs defeat the Panthers for their fourth loss of the season.
The Mocs began the game with a 3-0 lead as Brenna Smith scored two goals in the first eight minutes of the game. Sarah Grady put one in the back of the net just 38 seconds after Smith’s second goal.
The Panthers put a point on the board 10 minutes into the game, as Sam Schiano snuck one past Florida Southern goal keeper, Patrica Werker. Three minutes later, A.Benedetto started a 4-0 run with an assist by Marina Jozokos. The two scored again, less than a minute later, when Jozokos took a feed from A.Benedetto.
The Panthers were able to put two more points on the board by the end of the first half, but were not able to catch up. The Mocs went into the second half with a 9-3 lead.
M.Benedetto opened up the second half with an assisted goal from Sam Keesey 15 seconds after the clock started. The two repeated the same play 16 seconds later increasing their lead to seven. Riley Bannatyne and Catherine DeKorte put two points on the board before M.Benedetto scored her third goal of the game.
With under nine minutes left in the game, Lexi Woviotis scored the Panthers’ only goal of the second half. A.Benedetto and Abby Joselyn each got one in the net to end the game with a 16-4 victory for the Mocs.
The Mocs will continue conference play on the road against Tampa on March 27, and end the month with a home game against Mount Olive on March 30 at 1 p.m.
Men’s lacrosse dove into conference play with a 13-9 victory over Lynn as the Mocs sent the Fighting Knights back to Boca Raton with their second loss on March 16.
The Mocs started the game trialing the Fighting Knights by one after Keegan Maxwell scored with eight minutes left of the first quarter. Justin Dunleavy and Kyle Silverstein took the lead for the Mocs as both scored within the last three minutes of the first quarter.
Jeff Atlas, Kyle Silverstein, Kevin Horwitz, Sean Nolan and Carson Wallace all put one in the back of the net for the Mocs during the second quarter. Along with his two goals, Atlas also had three assist during the quarter. The Mocs went into halftime with a 8-3 lead.
The Fighting Knights outscored the Mocs 4-3 in the third quarter, but were unable to break their 11-7 lead. Silverstein and Nolan each scored in the fourth quarter propelling the Mocs into their 13-9 win over the Fighting Knights.
Silverstein lead the Mocs offensively with four goals and Maxwell Freestone made 14 saves locking down the Mocs defensively.
The Mocs host Belmont Abbey on March 22 at 1 p.m. and Colorado Mesa on March 24 at 12 p.m. on Moccasin Field.
