Women’s soccer falls twice on the road

On Wednesday, the Mocs traveled to St. Augustine, Florida where they fell 0-5 to the Flagler Saints in their last non-conference game of the season.

Freshman Jenny Staten started in the goal for her fifth straight collegiate game. The team defensively put up a fight in the first half, not allowing the Saints to score.

The Saints put their first ball in the back of the net in the 53rd minute of the game and didn’t let up until the 58th minute. A foul was called on the Mocs allowing a penalty kick to become the Saints second point on the board.

The game went back and forth between the two teams until the 88th minute when Flagler scored their fifth goal of the night.

The team was on the road again on Saturday to take on Palm Beach Atlantic (PBA) in West Palm Beach for their first conference game of the season.

The Sailfish scored early in the game putting their only point on the board. The Mocs took 11 shots with seven of them being on goal, but were unable to put one in the net. After playing two defensive halfs, the Mocs fell to PBA 0-1.

Men’s soccer draws their second tie of the season

The team opened their conference season with a home game against No. 6 PBA.

The two teams played a defensive game until the 43rd minute when Jacob Ling-Vannerus found an opportunity to slide one past the Sailfish goalkeeper. This marks his first goal of the season, in addition to his first goal back from a season ending injury he faced last season.

After the first half, neither team was able to find the back of the net until the 73rd minute when Charlie Lewis scored for PBA.

Neither team was able to get ahead of the other during regulation. After a two-and-half minute break, the game went into overtime. Both the Mocs and Sailfish took shots at the net, but were unsuccessful. The game went into double overtime and neither team was able to score leaving the Mocs with their second tie of the season.

On Saturday the Mocs went to Eckerd to take on the Tritons. The team started off strong as they took the first set, but fell out of groove and dropped the next three sets.
