Men’s soccer is slated to finish sixth in the conference.
In the SSC preseason poll, men’s soccer is picked to finish sixth in the conference this season.
Like Lawrence, Jason Carlson returns for his third season as head coach for the Mocs. The team ended last season in the SSC tournament quarterfinals in Boca Raton, Fla. against Lynn University where they lost 1-3. They kicked off last season with a 9-0 win streak and set a new program high, ranking No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. They finished the season with a 12-5 overall season record.
Carlson adds 13 members to the team; 11 freshman; Hunter Cole, Phillip Faderl, Ryan Duffey, Jack Duffey, Kyle Carr, Sebastian Kuhr, Ben Tumey, Gio Saavedra, Aj Pearce, Daniel Miranda and Anthony Hroncich, and two transfers; Edu Capote and Dauvan Erazo.
Recent graduates Pablo Gallo Arias and Sam Winning return to the team as assistant coaches under Carlson.
The team will play their first home game on Sept. 13 again Lindenwood at 7:30 p.m. on Moccasin Field.
Women’s soccer has been chosen to finish 7th in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) by the preseason coaches poll.
Head coach Paul Lawerence looks to lead the team for his third season at Florida Southern. This season he brings on five freshman; Jenny Staten, Jill Kinstler, Kim Ciarcia, Clair Maple, Courtney Chomko and Erika Casadevall, along with one transfer, Kailn Wiley.
“This is a well-balanced group on and off the field, and arguably the strongest academic collection of kids I have ever recruited,” Lawerence said.
According to Lawerence, the team already shows a togetherness and positive energy, which is visible in the training they have done.
The team ended last season with a 5-10-1 overall record and 3-7-0 conference record.
The team will begin its regular season on Sept. 5 with a home game against Valdosta State.
Men’s xc is predicted to finish 2nd in the conference
Head coach Matt Levassiur enters his second season for the Mocs and has added nine to the 2019 roster, including eight freshman; Troy Smith, Brady Zimmerman, Owen Allen, Nick Carpenter, Alex Guy, Bryson Yamnitz, Keith Kelley and Will Lynch, and one transfer; Joshua Paez.
“All nine of these young men hail from the Sunshine State and aim to bolster a roster that returned six of our top seven performers in xc,” Levassiur said.
Last season, the team finished 30th of 34 teams in the NCAA XC National Championship in Pittsburgh, PA. Mitchell Kozik was the first to cross the finish line for the Mocs placing 150 of 261 runners.
Junior Mason Jones was named 2018 team MVP. Jones ran the second-fastest time in school history at a regional meet in the 2018 NCAA South Region Championships.
Women’s xc is predicted to finish 3rd in the conference
Head coach Stephanie Bylander also enters her second season with the Mocs. Unlike Levassiur, Bylander keeps her 2018 roster locked.
The team ended last season placing fourth in the NCAA South Regional, which was the highest placement for the team since 2007 when they also placed fourth.
Hannah Flemming and Addison Cantor lead the team as both of them received All-SSC First-Team and All-Region Recognition. Cantor was name team MVP by Bylander.
Volleyball is anticipated to finish fourth in the SCC from the preseason coaches poll.
Chris Keen begins his second season as head coach for the Mocs. The team ended last season in the South Region Semifinals, closing the season with a 22-11 overall record.
After losing five seniors last season, Keen brought on four freshman; Ali Travis, Really Matthews, Sarah Zayas and Mika Garza, and four transfers; Mandee Eberle, Beatrice Formilan, Erica Ronda and Lena Bondar, to join the team.
The Mocs will play their first home match on Sept. 6 against Concordia State at 3 p.m. in Jenkins Field House.
