Sydney Johnson a sophomore here at Florida Southern College. In addition to being a student here Johnson is also a Type 1 Diabetic. Johnson’s battle with diabetes began in 2003 when she was only 3-years-old.

“For the longest time I never thought i’d want to incorporate Type 1 into my life beyond taking care of my self.” said Johnson.

It wasn’t until she had come to college that she made that decision as she felt more empowered .  One of The ways Johnson has incorporated Type 1 into her life was by establishing a Chapter of the College Diabetes Network also known as CDN.  The road to getting CDN here on campus began last spring. In order to establish a club on campus multiple things are required including at least 10 official member , an executive board, advisor and written bye laws.

Last April the College Diabetes Network was officially recognized as a club on campus. Since then multiple students have shown interest in the club and sharing there stories .

On their website www.collegediabetesnetwork.org they explain there message and offer support , scholarships and many other opportunities for students with diabetes.

“The College Diabetes Network (CDN) was created out of a glaring need young adults with type one had been experiencing for years, and we have become a hub of resources, support, and understanding for this underserved population.”
