On Tuesday, March 12, the RAs for first year, also known as Y1, students and RAs who will be with second-year students in the second-year experience, SYE, in Dell Hall next year, hosted a luau.

Located in Lynn’s Garden, the luau featured a variety of endless food from chicken wings and pot stickers to fresh fruit and smoothies.

The activities also seemed never-ending with the option to make leis, tie-dye a luau shirt, play corn hole or knock down the tiki piñata.

“Tie-dying was an awesome and enlightening experience,” freshman Sam Zorn said.

The luau also had two competitions in which participants won prizes.

The limbo competition was very close and even had to end with an intense game of rock-paper-scissors to determine which of the top three contestants took each place.

Yue Chen, sophomore, took the first place prize of a $25 Applebee’s gift card. Zoe Bachman-Whitney, freshman, placed second and received a $15 Cold Stone gift card. Caitlin Willis, sophomore, came in third place and earned a $10 Chick-Fil-A gift card.

In the hula hoop competition, very few were able to keep the hula hoops up due to being small for the size of most college students.

There were two girls who did succeed, though. Lesley McNair, sophomore, came in second place, winning a $15 cold stone gift card and Willis won the completion and received another gift card of $25 to Chili’s.

The overall consensus of the luau guests was that it was a fun night for both first-year and second-year students.
