Women’s basketball head coach Betsy Harris announced on Wednesday that her program will be playing Florida State University in an exhibition contest on Sunday, Oct. 27.

The matchup, taking place at 2 p.m. in the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee, Fla., will be the first contest between the two programs since Feb. 7, 1980, where the Seminoles defeated the Moccasins, 97-58.

“It’s a really exciting opportunity for us to go and play at Florida State,” Harris said. “It will be a great experience, especially for a young team like ours, to go and play in a big-time college basketball environment.”

Seven of the sixteen players on Harris’ 2019-20 roster are listed as freshmen.

Florida Southern is coming off a 30-4 record, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the NCAA South Region Tournament, Sunshine State Conference regular season and tournament champions and a 18-2 conference record. Florida State is coming off a 24-9 season, including a second round (Round of 32) matchup in the NCAA National Championships, and a 10-6 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

“We are really excited about the FSU game coming up because it’s going to put our team to the test going into the season,” sophomore Ashley Shell said. “Playing a good D1 team like FSU is going to force us to communicate while playing as a team.”

Florida Southern College’s director of athletic communication’s Ryan Bower has seen no record of the women’s program playing an NCAA Division I team in an exhibition game in the history of the program. Current team records trace back to the 1977-78 season.

Additional information about the game, including a potential fan bus and broadcasting, has not been released at this time.
