Two business organizations at Florida Southern College recently became recognized by the Student Government Association, adding to the list of business and innovation opportunities for students to pursue on campus.

In 2022, Florida passed legislation establishing the Sixth District Court of Appeal, with proceedings set to take place in the Hollis Room at FSC and other local campuses until a permanent courthouse is constructed. In exchange for using the space, the court provided students with an opportunity to see court proceedings live and in person without leaving campus on March 13.

Delight Ministries is part of a national women’s Bible study network, and the chapter at Florida Southern has grown its own family. Weekly gatherings blend devotionals with vulnerable conversations and the group regularly hosts worship nights and service projects.

The Simmons Multicultural Center is home to diversity and inclusion on campus. Wishing to promote these values, the center hosts an annual Welcome Back Barbecue for students and faculty every September. President Kerr claimed that the rising prices on campus are due to a variety of factors, mainly inflation. 

Dr. Jeremy P. Martin, hailing from the heights of educational experience at William & Mary, was officially appointed to his position as president at Florida Southern College on Aug 1. Following the 20-year tenure of Dr. Anne Kerr, Dr. Martin shares his mission, philosophy and appreciation around the college.

November 4th marked yet another election in the books for countless cities across the country. Though not a presidential or congressional election, several city-level positions, and even the governorship in one state, were up for grabs. 

This fall, Florida Southern College welcomes the new School of Architecture. Dr. Andrew Phillip Payne. was appointed as the program’s founding Dean and Professor.  The decision to have an architecture program at FSC was one that is welcomed by students, staff, and the Lakeland community.

For the first time in FSC history, Convocation was student-led with campus organizations sharing announcements regarding student life and events. 

Jan. 20 marks the inauguration of the 47th President of the United States of America, Donald Trump. This will mark Trump’s second tenure as president, having first served the role from 2017-2021. With his inauguration in sight, Trump has already been outspoken of his plan for his second four-year term.
