The Southern is the student-run newspaper of Florida Southern College, serving the Florida Southern College community since its founding in 1918, and before then as a daily newspaper. The Southern arrived in Lakeland when the college did in 1921 and has been in print for over 100 years.
The Southern is published in print bi-weekly during fall and spring semesters of the academic year at Florida Southern College by students through the Communication Department.
Opinions expressed in the opinions section or print pages are not necessarily those of the department, the administration, the Board of Trustees or The Southern editorial board. Written and signed responded to views expressed on these articles, or relevant to other Florida Southern College issues, are encouraged and will be considered for publication.
All members of the Florida Southern community—students, staff, faculty, administrators, trustees, alumni and other friends of the college—are invited to voice their opinion in and about The Southern. All material submitted is subject to editing for length, style and taste. All material must be submitted to fscsouthern@gmail.com to be considered
The Southern office is located in the Chatlos Building on Johnson Ave. in Lakeland, Florida.
