Established in October 2018, The Pre-Veterinary Society at FSC is an organization that brings awareness to the well being of animals. They spread their message through multiple activities and educational conventions to assist future veterinarians on their journey to help out furry companions.

Nora Alexander, a 21 year old alumna of FSC, never thought that her degree in biology would lead to anything other than becoming a veterinarian. Nora had always been interested in pursuing a degree in animals, volunteering at her local vet office throughout the summers, and planning her path to pre-med. 

Passions are found in many different outlets at FSC, whether that be exercising at the wellness center, reading books in your dorm or keying in on your future outside of college. For the members of the Florida Southern Smash Bros. club, it’s in the Snake Pit.

Every fall, from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, Hispanic Heritage Month serves as a nationwide celebration of culture, history and identity. On college campuses, the celebration carries a powerful meaning, highlighting the importance of diversity, inclusion and cultural pride among students of all backgrounds.

Going from working under his mentor to now working alongside him and acting as a mentor to other students, alumnus Charlie Fanning has returned to FSC as a professor in the history department. 

On Sept. 15, Jimmy Kimmel found himself tangled in controversy after making remarks about the death of political activist Charlie Kirk. This action resulted in  significant public backlash, along with calls to boycott Disney and its associated networks. Consequently, Kimmel’s show was pulled from the air before being reinstated just days later on Sept. 23, accompanied by an apology. This incident raises critical questions about the boundaries of free speech, especially in the realm of broadcast media.

It feels like as more and more new pieces of entertainment are released, their quality just gets worse and worse. While in some cases this is due to the project itself not meshing well with audiences, the source of the other cases is oftentimes due to overworking. As social media has diverted our attention away from traditional media outlets, like film and video games, the titans of those industries have responded to the changing times by adopting an assembly line approach, when it comes to producing content. 

Chain restaurants have always been a part of Florida’s dining scene, but lately, it feels like we’re living through a new wave. Whataburger, Swig, 7 Brew, Dutch Bros, the list keeps growing as more national names plant themselves on Florida ground. For some, this is exciting. For others, it feels like a takeover.

A simple sentence from the president can ripple through the country and feed dangerous rumors that change lives. In a press conference held on Sept. 22, President Donald Trump announced that acetaminophen, commonly known as Tylenol, causes autism. While factually untrue, this declaration spreads dangerous misinformation, undermines science and disrespects the experiences of those on the spectrum.

Coaching Division II sports is a tall task for most, but it becomes even tougher when there’s a newborn child involved. That’s the exact task that Head Volleyball Coach Ashlee Crowder has been assigned.

While FSC contains a diverse group of cultures on campus, the men’s tennis team is a true melting pot in every sense of the phrase. Out of the 20 players, 13 hail from foreign countries, which creates a unique experience compared to other sports. 

FSC men’s and women’s swim teams are under new leadership for the first time in over seven years. Head coach Steven Bostick became the sixth head coach of both teams in program history this June, filling the role Andy Robbins left in the wake of his retirement. 

Expectations have always surrounded senior Donovan Smith, but he’s learned to harness the attention and turn it into success. Over the summer, a documentary directed by Leo Kloos titled "West$ide" was created about Smith’s basketball journey. 

FSC students returned to campus this fall to find some big changes in the dining services on campus. Mostly centered around Wynee’s Bistro, the changes include an allergy-friendly station, an expanded salad bar and a new and improved international menu rotation designed to bring flavors from around the world to campus.

FSC is home to many different majors and programs. The department of Theatre Arts and Dance is a program that allows aspiring performers to prepare for a professional career in the arts. In this program, it allows performers to experience real performance and an opportunity to showcase their skills. The Florida Southern Dance program is ranked #6 in Florida for dance schools.

The story follows Bernard, a charming French bachelor who believes he’s mastered the art of love and scheduling. He’s engaged to three flight attendants from three different countries, each blissfully unaware of the others.
