McMahon’s confirmation hearing and the future of the Department of Education
The future of The U.S. Department of Education is facing significant uncertainty as the White House pushes forward with a strategy to restructure the agency.
On Feb. 4, the White House outlined a two-pronged approach to downsizing the department. The initial phase targets programs that were not explicitly created by Congress, making them easier to eliminate. However, the department’s major functions— such as Title I funding for low-income schools, IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and the federal student loan system —are protected by congressional statute, meaning any major structural changes would require legislative approval.
Opinion: Charley Crockett’s ‘$10 Cowboy’ deserved a Grammy
Charley Crockett is the greatest country musician of our generation.
People love to talk about how artists are snubbed at the Grammy Awards for their music. Crockett has made his way up to fame within the Americana genre, overpowering country artists who put a pop beat behind their music, like Morgan Wallen or Luke Bryan.

Spring break does not need to be a week-long party
As we’re approaching the halfway point of the Spring 2025 semester, that also means that spring break is right around the corner. As nice as it is to have a weeklong break from classes and other school responsibilities, that’s not really why people get so excited for this period of time.

Opinion: Say Drake, what’s your favorite halftime show?
I am not the biggest football fan. Never have been. But, I love the Super Bowl. It’s the perfect time to gather with friends, have an excuse to eat too many chips and salsa, and, of course, see if you’ll witness yet another legendary halftime performance. Living through many, I have clear performance favorites.
