Three years have passed since pop music star Halsey has released an album. Her hit single “Without Me” was the prelude to the new albumManicreleased Jan. 17.

“Without Me” features lyrics that say “Tell me how it feels sittin’ up there, Feeling so high but too far away to hold me.” This song emphasizes her and G-Eazy’s toxic relationship that involved arguing and cheating rumors.

“It’s just me. No wig, no colorful hair, no character, and it’s about my life and about my relationship that the world has watched so closely and so vehemently in the past year and a half,” Halsey said in an interview with Zane Lowe.

After being together for more than a year they split up, and Halsey reached out to her fans through a post on Instagram to let them know about the break up.

“I normally keep this kind of thing private but provided our public nature I feel the need to inform my fans. G-Eazy and I are taking some time apart,” Halsey said. “I’m eager to continue the upcoming passage of time dedicating myself to my art and my career, and the duration of my tour. I wish him the best. Thanks for respecting our privacy at this time.”

In an interview with Bobby Oliver, Halsey talks about another popular song from her album called “Graveyard.” It’s a beautiful song with a pop acoustic beat that talks about relationship decisions she made in the past that weren’t good.

“I feel like Halsey’s album is a reflection of her past relationship with G-Eazy and the toxic relationship she went through,” sophomore Jasmine Coleman said.

“You Should be Sad is a mix of pop and country while “Graveyard” is more of a pop upbeat song. “You Should be Sad” is a break up song with an upbeat twist to sad lyrics. A notable part of the song is “You’re not half the man you think you are. And you can’t fill the hole inside of you with money, drugs, and cars.” This lyric is directed toward G-Eazy and what happened during their relationship.

Her song “Forever (Is a Long Time)” is titled after her journey of falling in love and then replacing love with paranoia and insecurity. Halsey’s lyrics are “I could never hold a perfect thing and not demolish it. What am I thinking? What does this mean? How could somebody ever love me?”

“Halsey has grown a lot over the years as an artist and she is now more open to try new things with her music” sophomore Emily Schweitzer said.

The song shares a similar theme with her previous hit “Bad at Love” from the album “Hopeless Fountain Kingdom.” Where “Hopeless Fountain Kingdomhas a Romeo and Juliet theme, Manicfocuses more on her and her emotions.

“You can tell Halsey has grown a lot from her past relationships,” sophomore Emily Schweitzer said. “There is a lot of growth in her music.”

Halsey got her fans excited about “Manic by having a countdown during the month the album would be released.

“I love you guys. I am very overwhelmed with emotion,” Halsey said in a tweet on Jan. 18. “ I don’t really know what to say. I’ll put it into coherent thought soon. I just need a few days to soak this up.”

Halsey will kick off her Manic World Tour February of 2020 in Europe. She begins her tour in North America during the summer of 2020 with only one stop in Florida, at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa on July 22.
