For senior Evy Hatzigiamnis,  joining the Association of Campus Entertainment (ACE) was just a “reason to leave the dorm.”

After volunteering since her freshman year, she is currently the vice president of marketing and public relations.

Hatzigiamnis is in charge of creating all marketing materials, including content for social media, Engage and merchandise. As someone who fell in love with the graphic design elements of social media in high school, she was ecstatic when the position opened up in ACE.

“I like getting into the design portion of it, it’s not my major but I feel like I can just zone out when I make stuff and make things look pretty,” Hatzigiamnis said.

She also loves how it allows her to think outside the box to engage as many students as possible. For instance, she and the Southern Sound director Catherine Sarte designed bracelets for this year’s Southern Takeover. The design features the concert date, 11/11, which is also a commonly recognized angel number. She hopes to do more similar incentives for students.

Transforming ACE’s social media page is another goal of hers. Hatzigiamnis tries to shy away from graphics as posts on Instagram to make it less cluttered.

“Since I got the position, I’m continuing to try to make social media less stuffy and more fun,” Hatzigiamnis said. “I try to do more casual posts, we don’t like to post our graphics on our feed, so we’ll keep them in our highlights for events just so our feed has pictures of our events, what ACE is, showing how fun it could be.”

A selfie of Hatzigiamnis, followed by pictures of cats from Botany Cats and the Moot Court Board from Jan. 31 on ACE’s Instagram is a prime example.

Being in charge of their social media has also taught her to accept critiques and work with a team instead of “being an island.”

“Learning to trust my team members, let go a little bit, accept some help… when I’m making a graphic and I’m like, ‘There’s something off and I can’t tell what it is’, I’ll send it over to someone and they’re like oh make this bigger, add this, like really working as a team to make everything look good,” Hatzigiamnis said.

Aside from ACE events, one of her favorite things about the organization is her team. Whether it be a leadership meeting on Monday, an open meeting on Wednesday, or working in Rogers during office hours, Hatzigiamnis doesn’t mind spending most of her time with her ACE board.

“I love everyone who works at ACE. Our meetings are always so much fun just because everyone is good at working together as a team,” Hatzigiamnis said. “We always start off our executive board meetings with like what was your high and low from the week and it’s like a little bonding thing.”

But when she does have time outside of her elementary education and psychology classes and ACE, Hatzigiamnis can be spotted at the Wellness Center.

As a personal trainer, she holds private exercise and nutrition sessions with student clientele. She also teaches group exercise classes, like cycling and pilates.

She’s also a regular gym-goer when she’s off the clock. Exercising is one of the ways she calms her mind during her busy week.

“Even though I work there when I go to work out, that’s like me time,” Hatzigiamnis said. “I have my headphones in, I get to zone out and just kind of work on myself, I really enjoy exercise as a way to unwind.”

Spending time with her roommate, going on a walk and re-watching Gilmore Girls is another favorite pastime of hers. Yet, she only gets to relax if her Google Calendar allows.

“My Google calendar is my brain, it’s color-coded, I have everything in there,” Hatzigiamnis said. “If it’s not in my Google calendar I’m going to forget that I have it. Even social stuff I’ll put in there.”

Her calendar is stacked. But despite her busy days, Hatzigiamnis doesn’t regret them.

“Everything that I do I really enjoy doing, so even though it is a lot, it’s kind of easy to balance because it doesn’t feel like I’m going 24/7,” Hatzigiamnis said. “I’m enjoying each part of my day.”
