At FSC, students are encouraged to explore their passions beyond their major. The campus offers a wide variety of clubs and organizations, each providing something unique for students to get involved in and enjoy.

A new club that was specifically started for students with an interest in graphic design, called the LAME club, features a way for students to collaborate with one another while simultaneously helping out the campus community.

“Through being part of this club, I hope to gain insight from fellow artists who have different styles than my own. As someone who is already familiar with the graphic design program, receiving advice from older classmates is both inspiring and motivating for my future artwork,” Junior member of the LAME club, Taylor Bartuch said.

The LAME club is essentially shaping the student-design experience here at FSC. The club allows individuals to use their creativity while helping create event posters, graphics and merchandise.

“One design project I’m particularly proud of is my “Sonny Angel” inspired FSC sticker. I drew the design entirely by hand, putting a lot of care and attention into every detail. Since its creation, it has consistently been a favorite, drawing attention and compliments at every merchandise market,” Bartuch said.

Building on this, as the club expands members are wanting to collaborate with local businesses and organizations while applying their graphic design talents to contribute to the Lakeland community.

“For the club, I would love to see us partner with organizations beyond the art department.”

Bartuch continues on to say, “As someone who works at both the Wellness Center or the Morning Grind Coffee Cart I would enjoy sharing the power of design with these spaces. I love how versatile design is and how it can be applied to virtually any organization.”

Through the designing of digital illustrations, apparel and ads, the LAME club fosters the next generation of artists. This club allows students to find their confidence to create opportunities for themselves. While also providing ways to show how an individual expresses themselves through graphic design, while making an impact on campus events and hopefully in the future off campus events.

If you’re interested in graphic design, be sure to check out the LAME Club. They offer helpful guidance and can help you uncover creative abilities you might not have realized you had.
