Florida Southern’s new Spikeball Club has quickly taken a liking to students on campus. Spikeball is the engaging game of roundnet that allows players to team-up and strategize, while also creating a positive social environment. After realizing this activity was only seen as an intramural, Co-president of the Spikeball club, Brian von Suskil wanted a space to hold more competitions.

“The idea spurred after our first blast off event when we realized there wasn’t already one on campus,” von Suskil said.

Morgan Murray, the advertising specialist shares the true connection behind their Spikeball roots: “Alex, Brian, Kelsey, and I have been friends since freshman year. Our friend group really thrived off of the activities we did with one another, one being spikeball during our beach trips,” Murray said.  All members share a unique and personal connection with the game of Spikeball which sets the tone for this new club.

When talking about the development of the new club, executive members often use the word “we” showing how prioritized connections and teamwork is within the Spikeball Club, entirely. What they started as a small game between the now Co-Presidents Alex Waite and von Suskil, Kelsey Scott the Secretary, and Murray, is now a club for all.

With the addition of Charlie Wallace, these five students put in countless hours to make this club real. When looking back on how far they have come, Murray reflects often.

“They worked super hard with stuff over the summer such as registration, finding an advisor, and all the little stuff in between to help create this,” Murray said.

After working these countless hours in the spring of 2024, at this past season’s Blastoff, the love of Spikeball became official and available to everyone across campus. Without the hard work during the summer, they would not be where they are today.

The team can not wait for the future of Spikeball as they look forward to adding tournaments where the members find new connections within the club and compete in friendly games. Unlike the Intramural, any skillset is welcome and all are welcome to see what this club will do in the near future. As the startup phase comes to an end, the members hope to further grow every aspect of this club while the number of members keep climbing.

“I believe we’re the highest growing club on campus at the moment,” Murray said. Will be, This fall semester practices are held biweekly on Thursdays from 4-6 p.m. and then 5-7 p.m. The following practices are always open to new students who share the love of hanging out, making new connections, and of course, Spikeball.
