Both lacrosse teams are now past the halfway point in the season with only a handful of games left to be played. While the men have been dealt a poor hand, facing five ranked opponents out of their nine games played, the women have been on fire at a burning hot 10-0 set to face the No. 1 ranked team in Division II.
Men’s Lacrosse

During senior night on March 15 at Berend Field, the Mocs took down the No. 13 ranked squad in Colorado Mesa, putting a damper on their two week slump.
The final score was 15-8, the most the Mocs have put on the scoreboard this season.
Leading the charge on offense was junior Nolan Tighe, nearly grabbing a double hat trick, totaling five goals on six shots for the day. The hat trick he did earn was the first three goals of the game for the Mocs.
Defensively, freshman Carson Corona led the team in caused turnovers as well as ground balls. Due to this, Corona was named the SSC defensive player of the week. Additionally, Corona was also named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division II Team of the Week for his performance versus No. 13 Colorado Mesa, marking the 11th time a Moc has received that honor.
Unfortunately, the Mocs couldn’t continue the momentum, dropping a noon affair to the No. 13 ranked Saint Leo team. This brings the team to a record of 2-7 on the year. Their next matchup will be away at Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday, March 29.
Women’s Lacrosse

Conversely from the men, the women have not yet suffered a loss with the University of Tampa looming as their next game. Since March 11, the women have played four games, three against ranked teams, all at Berend Field.
On the list of teams that were brought down is No. 7 ranked University of Indiana, the University of Alabama Huntsville, the No. 2 ranked Pace University and the No. 23 ranked Mercy University.
Although UAH was the only unranked team FSC faced in the recent stint, the game was designated as the TeamTrippy DIPG Awareness Night. All purchased tickets and donation money went directly to the non profit charity organization.
“The Team Trippy Foundation will support children who have been diagnosed with cancer. The foundation will provide financial assistance and sponsor experiences to help families better manage their childhood cancer journey. The Team Trippy foundation will also provide scholarship opportunities to students in the Hanson/Whitman area,” Teamtrippy.com says.
Along with the money being raised, each time the Mocs scored a goal, a rubber duck was thrown into the crowd to signify Trippy’s fondness of going on Jeep rides. The Mocs scored 19 goals that night, a season high that would be broken the very next game against Pace.
Since March 17, three awards were given to two of the women on the team. The team’s leading goal scorer Gianna Murphy was credited with the USA Lacrosse Division II player of the week for her three game stretch starting with UIndy where she earned herself 14 goals on 20 shots.
Maria Reeves was announced as both SSC Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week as well as the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) National Defensive Player of the Week. Her 37 total draw controls in the three games were the primary reason for her accolade, now totaling 71 on the season. 18 of those DCs were against Pace, which is tied for both FSC and SSC draw controls in a single game with alumna Dani Bursinger.
Results from the game against the University of Tampa were unavailable when the publication was submitted. Please visit fscmocs.com for updates.
