Following the FSC women’s soccer team’s elimination in the second round of the SSC playoffs, head coach Gerry Lucey announced his retirement. He plans to move to Long Island with his family at the end of the year.
“The opportunity to coach at Florida Southern has meant a lot to my family and me,” said Lucey. “I’d like to say a huge thanks to my fellow coaches at FSC, who again have been kind and supportive, and are always looking out for each other.”
Lucey coached the team to a 23-17-14 record during his three-year tenure, reaching the SSC semifinal twice. The 2025 squad had four All-SSC selections, a testament to the team’s success.
Florida Southern’s defense, led by goalkeeper Carly Brodsky, allowed just 0.44 goals per game, one of the best marks in all of DII women’s soccer during the 2025 season.
“Of course, a massive thank you to all the players over the past three seasons, who believed in what we have been trying to accomplish, those who gave 100% all the time, and those who put the team before themselves. We have experienced a good level of success here, and this past season has been excellent,” said Lucey.

Lucy will depart the program for familial reasons and settle down in Long Island, New York, where he hopes to work with the Long Island Soccer Club and re-enter the college coaching scene “soon”.
After missing the playoffs in 2024, Florida Southern carried their momentum into the SSC tournament with a 2-0 win against Embry-Riddle University.
Aliya Roberts and Isabella Payne each scored a goal in the match, as Carly Brodsky logged yet another shutout to continue her incredible season.
Following the quarterfinal victory, the Moccasins saw their season come to an end in Fort Lauderdale at the hands of the No. 10 ranked Nova Southeastern University by a final score of 0-1. After allowing a goal in the 16th minute, FSC was unable to even the score.
Lucey’s team recorded eight shots, with three of them being shots on goal, but they were to no avail. Brodsky had three saves, keeping Florida Southern within striking distance the entirety of the night.
Although the end goal of a championship wasn’t met, it was still a successful season for Lucey and the women’s soccer team. They set school records, reached the second round of the playoffs and received several conference honors for their excellent performance.
