American Authors will headline Florida Southern’s Annual Southern Takeover on March 16, 2018, announced Wyatt Robinson, ACE Tuned In Director, at Convocation.

Joan and CYN will be joining American Authors at Southern Takeover.

Since forming at the Berklee College of Music in 2006, American Authors has performed at venues such as Lollapalooza, SXSW Music Festival and Firefly Music Festival.

Joan and CYN are two rising groups. Joan is out of Nashville, Tenn., and CYN is out of Chicago. CYN was discovered by Katy Perry who called her “one of my favorite rising artists.”

The Association of Campus Entertainment is putting on the “Best Day Of My Life” as a Moc Video Contest.

According to the contest rules, participants are required to make a video of the three best things about being a Moc and explain why that makes your life rock. You must also incorporate the song “Best Day of My Life” by American Authors and all videos must be emailed to wrobinson2@mocs.flsouthern.edu by March 1 at 11:59 pm.

The top three winners will beable to bring two friends to the VIP meet and greet on the day of the concert. FloSoPalooza, based off of Lolapalooza, is this year’s theme for Southern Takeover and ACE wants this to be more than just a concert.

In addition to music, there will be food trucks, novelty items, and local DJ’s before the show. Robinson said it took “quite the fight” to get all of the artists here on campus but everything seemed to line up perfectly.

Senior Allison Navarro attended Southern Takeover 2015 when We The Kings was the headliner. She said had high expectations for this year since ACE gauged students to know what type of artists they wanted.

“My freshman year Southern Takeover exceeded my expectations,” Navarro said. “They had
great bands, and it was so fun being out on the green.”

Navarro said she didn’t attend the last two years because she doesn’t enjoy rap music. While she is excited for this year, she said she is a little hesitant because of cancellations and change of venue in the past.

The festival will be free to all students.
