Earlier this semester, there was some doubt as to whether the Morning Grind would open again after its official debut in the spring semester of 2024. Despite that, they overcame all speculation and re-opened a few weeks into the school year.
To conclude the semester, Moc Bucks will now be accepted as a form of currency at the cart. Moc Bucks is the account in the student portal that can be manually loaded with money. The cart does not accept Snakebites, the student meal plan.
One of the Morning Grind’s founders, senior Aiden Coffey, explains what allowed Morning Grind to make the change.
“[It’s our new] … point of sale system …we [now] have the schools transact,” Coffey said.
Transact is the processing unit that every campus eatery, like Wynees and Buckstop. It allows students to purchase items with the swipe of their student ID. With this latest change for Morning Grind, students will have the option to swipe their cards and use Moc Bucks from their student account. Students can always add Moc Bucks and check their current balance by visiting the student portal, clicking the dining tab > Quick Navigation > Add Moc Bucks, which is underlined in blue.
Morning Grind also looks to add a few more currency options in their next couple months of operation.
“Currently at the moment, we take all forms of online payment so we are able to process credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay,” Coffey said. “… we would like to get into … loyalty cards and gift cards … with loyalty cards we look to reward our loyal customers and provide them with better benefits.”
Morning Grind will be open next semester, and will continue to use student ideas and ambition to create improvements.
