The Orientation Leader applications opened last week and will close on March 18 on Engage for the upcoming school year as professional staff members make decisions about who will serve next year.
“O-Leaders” are one of the first faces that incoming students see when they come to campus. They serve an integral role in welcoming new Mocs to campus.
Brooke Bezdek, a senior Orientation Leader for the 2018 school year, said she loved being able to play such an important role in new students’ lives.
“I still talk to my orientees to check in on them and all of my former orientees have played a role in my college experience as well,” Bezdek said.
The role also comes with perks such as moving back to campus early in the fall and valuable life lessons.
Nolan Arenz, a rising senior who has served in this role the past two years said this is his favorite leadership role on campus.
“It’s the most unique leadership role you can get on campus and comes with the best perks,” Arenz said. “I love being there for the new students and showing them all FSC has to offer, and being able to move into campus early is a huge perk here.”
For the program, the admissions team is looking for leaders to help first-year students into making the most out of their time at FSC. Once students are selected and move into campus, they will be put through a training process which will provide them with the necessary information and skills to be beneficial to their orientees.
Due to the intensive training that takes place a week before classes, all students selected to serve in this role are able to move into campus early avoiding the chaos of move-in day and giving them time to get accustomed to campus life.
“All students should apply to be an Orientation Leader at FSC because the experience will only benefit you moving forward,” Bezdek said. “You are able to play a key role in these students’ lives not just in the beginning of the school year but also for years following.”
Applications are open now and require two recommendation letters to be considered complete. They can be found on Engage and must be submitted by March 18.
