Dr. Shameka Shelby appointed deputy chief of staff

Dr. Shameka Shelby, a dedicated member of the Chemistry Department, is stepping into a new leadership role in the fall. Starting in September, Shelby will serve as Florida Southern’s Deputy Chief of Staff and Associate Vice President for Inclusive Excellence. Shelby has been a faculty member at FSC for over a decade. She serves as the Department Chair of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics. She has also taken an active role in the creation and facilitation of the Race, Culture and Ethnic Studies minor. Through her passion and mentorship, she’s made an impact on many. Fortunately for students, Shelby will still teach one class a semester.

Will Convocation remain a student tradition at FSC?

Student Convocation has been a biannual event held to bring in guest speakers to talk to students, promote campus involvement, and recognize notable faculty and FSC alumni. 

FSC welcomes 18th President Dr. Jeremy P. Martin

Dr. Jeremy P. Martin, hailing from the heights of educational experience at William & Mary, was officially appointed to his position as president at Florida Southern College on Aug 1. Following the 20-year tenure of Dr. Anne Kerr, Dr. Martin shares his mission, philosophy and appreciation around the college.

Fall 2024 Convocation reveals semester highlights

On Sept. 4, student organizations gathered to host Florida Southern’s annual fall convocation. The Student Government Association was introduced by student body president, Zion Virgil, followed by ACE, MSC (Multicultural Student Council), Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, Campus Ministries and Student Athlete Advisory Committee. The student organizations remain the focus of leading convocation, a new tradition brought in just last year. 

Women of Florida Southern thrive in male-dominated majors

Every March, people around the nation celebrate Women’s History Month by recognizing the triumphs and accomplishments that women have achieved. Women everywhere prevail through discrimination and show the world their strength by becoming successful in male-dominated areas of work and study.
