The student chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association at Florida Southern College hosted a professional development workshop called “Prezi in PR.” The workshop was led by Jessica Lawson, a member of the local FPRA chapter, on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 8:30 a.m. at the Chatlos Building located at 965 Johnson Ave., Lakeland.
The hands-on workshop was open to anyone who wanted to learn about the innovative presentation and storytelling tool called Prezi.
The cost for FPRA members was $10; non-members $15. Those who wished to go to the workshop had to RSVP at www.fprapolk.org. A continental breakfast was included for all attendees.
“This event will provide an opportunity for students to meet professionals in the PR field and network to make potentially valuable connections,” Erin Bell, vice president of FPRA, said. “Students from the various communications programs will be sure to find a way FPRA can benefit them.”
Prezi is a cloud-based virtual whiteboard that takes the art of presentation to a new level so that an audience may see, understand and remember ideas.
With more than a million new users a month and millions more regular users worldwide, the popularity and effectiveness of Prezi is inevitable.
Lawson is the Community Relations Manager for SPCA Florida and treasurer of the Dick Pope/Polk County chapter of FPRA.
A graduate of Emerson College in Boston, she has obtained national and international media coverage, she consistently secures local media, and helps plan and manage SPCA Florida’s two signature fundraising events, which gross over $400,000 annually.
Her transition from Powerpoint to Prezi took place in 2010 when her cutting-edge Prezi graduate capstone presentation impressed her fellow students, professors and her group’s client.
