FSC Chaplain’s Office and Campus Ministries took 14 students and 2 chaperones to Baton Rouge, LA over spring break to assist in relief work following the devastating flooding in that area last August.
30,000 people in the Baton Rouge area lost their homes and most of their possessions in less than 24 hours after many areas received over four feet of flooding. Our students had opportunities to learn to drywall, insulate, paint, and “mud” the drywall over the course of the week. The most memorable moments though were the conversations with Stephanie, the homeowner, and those in the area who had been forced to live in unfinished and, in some cases, destroyed homes.
FSC is grateful for the ability to serve another community in this way and especially to the Florida United Methodist Foundation, First United Methodist Church of Auburndale, as well as other outside donors who helped to make this trip financially possible.
