Blastoff!, Florida Southern’s annual event to sign up for clubs hosted over 100 organizations on Tuesday, August 20 featuring three new organizations.
The event took place in Jenkins Field House with tables circling the entire gym. Some FSC’s newest organizations made their debut, including Scuba Gym, Climbing Club and Beta Alpha Psi (an honor society for accounting and finance). Blastoff! can help newer organizations gain some recognition and sign-ups.
“Our expectations as a club was to find more people who are truly passionate about giving back, and people who are truly passionate about scuba diving,” Marc Roman, Founder and President of FSC Scuba Gym said.
The past few years, each freshman class has had more people than the next. This year’s freshman class has the largest number of people of any previous one. 1,402 students attended Blastoff! this year, almost matching last year’s attendance according to SGA President Arjeet Tipirneni and Executive Vice President Max Giard.
“Everybody has something to say about something going on on campus,” Tipirneni said about the importance of being involved on campus. “The best way to make a difference is to get involved and be a part of the community you’re a part of.”
Students who were unable to attend Blastoff! can still sign up for organizations on Engage. For any questions for becoming involved on campus, contact the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) Director of Student Involvement, Allison Manning at amanning@flsouthern.edu.
